In 1960, he met the Liverpool band the Beatles, and left his band to join them two years later replacing Pete Best, setting him on the path of success with his new band members Paul McCartney and George Harrison. He later joined the band Rory Storm Hurricanes by this time the drummer had adopted the stage name, Ringo Starr. Ringo Starr began his music career after he joined the skiffle band. In 1956, Starr worked as an apprentice machinist for an equipment manufacturer and while he worked there he became acquainted with his fellow music lover Roy Trafford. While staying in the hospital, Ringo began to develop an interest in drumming.Īfter his discharge from the hospital this time he chose not to return to school and stayed at home instead to indulge his newfound love for the art of music. Apart from that, Ringo had several other health problems which caused him to remain in hospitals for a longer time. His father Richard Starkey and his mother Elsie Gleave were separated and got divorced within a year of their marriage. Ringo Starr was born Richard Starkey on the 7th of July 1940, in Dingle, Liverpool, United Kingdom.
